  1. Senate Minority Leader Daniel Fisk (R-NE)

Well, hello CPAC! It is great to be here, at the epicenter of the conservative movement. And it an honor to stand here before you - the true patriots that are on the frontline battle for our constitutional republic.

You see, friends, I don't have to tell you that our way of life is under attack. While it may not be fully visible to the average American just yet, there are serious threats to our constitutional order, to our nation's moral fabric, and to our standing as a global leader abroad. The "Mr. Nice Guy" varnish from President Mulroney has worn off, and we are facing a series of challenges that he is woefully unprepared to handle.

Just today, we learned of a December 2020 meeting between Robert Mulroney, Daniel Bu and Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy. This revelation is thanks to your Republican-led House of Representatives, led by Speaker Cheney, as part of their probe into corruption and interference in the judicial system. We're talking about a President-elect and his Vice President-elect seeking to oust a sitting Supreme Court Justice, so they can ram a successor through the Senate using the nuclear option. This raises serious questions about the current White House's respect for the rule of law, the separation of powers, and their respect for the Supreme Court. Maybe we shouldn't be surprised, given the radical left-wing approach the Democratic Party has taken towards politicizing the Supreme Court: from rejecting Judge Kethledge to refusing to even hear from Judge Lagoa. But, even if we aren't surprised, we should be concerned. While I am fighting each and every day to win back Republican control of the US Senate - and we made some great progress under my leadership in 2020 - the Democrats are fighting to entrench themselves deeper and deeper into power.

Amid the Middle East situation and Iranian aggression which has sent gas prices skyrocketing, Democrats are too busy promoting electric vehicles to notice the pain that everyday Americans are experiencing at the pump. And when we Republicans introduced legislation to keep the lights on, Democrats are busy agitating for a "Green New Deal" - which is nothing less than a radical transformation of our energy economy along socialist lines. We should be drilling, but Democrats from top down are saying "no." That is why our Republican controlled House is considering the All In Energy Act, and Senate Democrats are busy digging their graves on Twitter.

Friends, the Republican-controlled House may get less attention than the Senate, but it has passed and will pass a number of critical bills to reclaim our moral compass as a nation. Whether it is providing pregnant mothers with support or prohibiting tax dollars from funding abortions overseas, conservative Republicans are the party of life. We stand up for economic opportunity for all of our fellow citizens, which was seen when the House passed Republican bills such as the Education Savings Act and the Workforce Pell Act. And Republicans are at the forefront of promoting American strength abroad.

When it comes to China, our greatest long-term strategic adversary, it was Republicans like Senator Davis and Senator Johnson who removed any "developing nation" characterization from the regime in Beijing. And, following on their bill becoming law, I introduced the Counter Chinese Communist Party Influence Act. This bill is the most comprehensive approach to stand up to China in our nation's history -  it passed the House and is now being considered in the Senate. My fight against the Communist threat has earned me the ire and wrath of the Politburo, leading to sanctions being placed on me and my family. But I will not back down, and neither should our great country!

As we watch and react to the situation unfolding in the Middle East, you can rest assured that our Republican Party will never cower to regional bullies. We will hold this White House accountable for each and every misstep, and we will be there to provide needed remedies legislatively.

CPAC, we need your support this coming fall. We need you to rise up and form that red wave that will sweep the likes of Florida's Democrat Senator Michael Bu and the other corrupt Democrats out of office. Our Constitution, our security, and our way of life are up for grabs: will disastrous Democratic policies decimate them, or will reliable Republican action save our country? I choose action, and with your help, together we will accomplish great things.

Thank you, God bless you, and may God bless America!

  2. Name: Senate Minority Leader Daniel Fisk (R-NE)

    Media/Outlet: Fox News

    Reason: Bu-Gate

    • I applaud Speaker Cheney for appointing a serious House investigation to provide legislative oversight into judicial interference and public corruption. Nobody should be allowed to get away with such egregious violations of our Constitutional order, even if they are rich and powerful like the Vice President and his family.
    • Congressman Chaffetz and his select subcommittee will get to the bottom of the "Bu-gate" allegations - and importantly they will develop proposals to ensure that similar abuses of power are restricted going forward.
    • While some prominent Democrats are calling for the resignation of Vice President Bu, I am withholding judgment until the House issues its report and we see what the Special Prosecutor finds. But the allegations of pressuring both the Florida Governor and a sitting Supreme Court Justice are extremely concerning to me and to millions of Americans.
  3. After Seeking More Time, Fisk Slams Democrats for Rushing Cloture via the Nuclear Option

WASHINGTON, DC -- Senate Minority Leader Daniel Fisk (R-NE) recently spoke to the press about his "no" vote against Judge Jacqueline Nguyen's nomination to the Supreme Court, saying that "It reflects the Democrat's misplaced priorities, their effort to politicize the Supreme Court, and their blatant disregard for the norms of the Senate." Senator Fisk, who had yet to come out in opposition to Judge Nguyen's nomination before the nuclear option, said that he "kept an open mind throughout this confirmation process, and ultimately there were several good questions that went unasked and unanswered in Committee. That is why I sought to recommit the nomination, to allow a more thorough investigation into the beliefs and record of Judge Nguyen." When his motion to do so failed on a party-line vote, Democrats then "rushed for cloture, and when that failed, they decided to go nuclear."

Senator Fisk, who has long been a proponent of the filibuster as a mechanism to enforce bipartisan agreement on the key issues of the day, hearkened back to his first year in the Senate when then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid abolished the filibuster for most nominees, except the Supreme Court. "And now, Senate Democratic Leader Lance Reed has finished the job, further placing politics and partisanship before the people by expanding the nuclear option." Perhaps most interesting was that only a single Democrat - John Keller of Illinois - voted against the nuclear option. Senator Fisk addressed this on Twitter, specifically calling out half a dozen "supposedly moderate Senators who violated the trust of the people who sent them to Washington." He wrote, "These individuals were elected in red-leaning states on the promise of working across the aisle. Instead, they turned their backs on their constituents, turned their backs on bipartisanship, and went nuclear."

  4. Madam President pro tempore,

I rise in support of this legislation and for cloture in light of the importance of this issue for the people of Tibet. The Dalai Lama has been a bold spokesman for the people of Tibet and people of the Tibetan Buddhist faith. His ministry has ruffled the feathers of the powerful and oppressive in Beijing, and nothing would please the CCP more than to quiet this voice by appointing a hand-picked successor whenever that time may come.

By speaking with one voice in this body, we can call out the Chinese Communist Party for its attacks on religious people throughout their nation. After all, the CCP's treatment of the Uighur Muslim population, their support for the genocide of the Rohingya in Myanmar, their oppression of Tibetan Buddhists, and their opposition to the faith of the underground Christian community in the mainland is abhorrent and deserves swift action.

With that all being said, I believe we can, should and must go further in combating the influence of the Chinese Communist Party around the globe.

That is why I introduced my bill, which is still awaiting a hearing in the Senate, S.11, the Counter Chinese Communist Party Influence Act. My bill takes a comprehensive approach to this new era of cold conflict with the People's Republic of China, and calls out the Chinese Community Party for their gross offensives against freedom, against democracy, and against the free exercise of religion.

Recognizing the time sensitive nature of this proposal, and being a co-sponsor of this effort, I will readily support cloture at this time. However, passage of this bill must not be our last effort to peaceably promote freedom - including freedom of religion - in East Asia.

    I yield.
