Sutherland proposes legislation to protect workers' rights throughout the United States

(SPRINGFIELD)— Earlier today, Congressman Andrew Sutherland (D-IL-20) filed legislation to protect the ability for workers to negotiate in a stronger position no matter what state they live in.

“For far too long, politicians have attacked the rights of the worker while barely ever experiencing the work environments they are subject to,” Sutherland said. “This legislation will protect every worker in America by giving the power back to them and not those just trying to pad their bottom lines at the expense of the well-being of the workforce.”

The legislation, entitled the Protecting Worker’s Rights Act, would repeal state authority under the National Labor Relations Act to enact right-to-work ordinances. The legislation would go into effect immediately upon its Constitutional passage.

“Protecting an individual’s labor rights is one of the most important things we can do in Washington,” Sutherland said. “I urge everyone in Congress to join me in passing this legislation and continue the fight to provide a better life for every American.”
