The committee rosters can be posted ((in this forum, in their own thread.)) Members of the minority are welcome to register with their respective committees as well.

I think the rosters should be posted ((in this forum in their own thread)) so that the public is aware about who is serving on what committee straight from the leadership. ((I cant create the thread or I would))

  2. Senator Andrew Sutherland (D-Illinois)

    House Democrats Surrogate Speech

States: Suburbs - Illinois, Georgia, Michigan

    Quote

    Hello (insert location here),

Our country is at a crossroads. And that crossroads won’t impact you as voters. It won’t impact me as a United States Senator. The impact of the crossroads we are at today will affect our children’s future. This election is about our children, always has been, always will be. If we don’t make this election about investing in our children, then we will have ruined America’s future for years to come.

Democrats have made investing in our children from birth through their formative college years. Under Democratic leadership, we were able to ensure that the prohibitive cost of higher education won’t stop our next generation of blue and white collar workers from getting a community college education.

But republicans have made a conscious effort to defund our teachers and child care workers. Now is the time to invest in them not divest. You have heard Republicans before. The current Speaker of the House is the reason we have education problems today, with the horrendous No Child Left Behind Law.

We need to elect a House of Representatives that will fight for our children and fight for our future. That is why I am here to support your next Congressman (or Congresswoman). We need to elect progressive democrats who will pass universal Pre-K, invest in our middle class who want to get a higher education. If you elect a Democratic Congress we will send legislation to fund universal childcare. We will provide a $2,000 first time investment rebate for middle and working class families.

With your support we can radically change our children’s future for the better. With your help, we will elect democrats up and down the ballot and provide a family first agenda for every American family. One that invests in America’s schools. One that invests in our future scientists and doctors. One that provides for the working mom. With your vote on election day, we will tell Speaker Hastert that we will do the actual work he should of done decades ago to leave no child behind.

  3. Good Evening, Los Angeles –

I will say October in Los Angeles is a lot different then October in the Windy City. Everyone here has been so gracious to me and my family and I thank you for that.

We are here tonight to continue the important discussions that have been undertaken by the Murphy Administration and Senate Democrats. Those discussions were to address our broken immigration system. President Murphy and Senate Democrats even came to a deal with Senate Republicans to pass a bill to address our immigration problems. Who stood in the way? Corey McKnight and Speaker Hastert. They don’t want a deal. They don’t want to solve one of the largest problem facing millions of children in our country.

It’s sad because they pay lip service to protecting our border, the Murphy bill did that. They say we need to reform immigration, the Murphy bill did that. What did they do? Sat on their hands while children wondered if they would be able to stay in the only country they have ever known.

I’m going to be honest with you. The only way we pass this bill is by ending Speaker Hastert’s speakership. And we need your help to do that. With your support tonight, we will be well on our way to passing a comprehensive immigration reform bill with President Murphy, Leader McAfee and a SPEAKER Nancy Pelosi. Let’s win these elections, take the House and seriously address the immigration issues facing our country.

Thank you for your support tonight and let’s get this job done!

  6. Sutherland Disturbed by Education Decimation Proposal from Republicans

(Washington, D.C.)— In response to a positive investment proposal for children across the United States, Speaker Andrew Sutherland (D-IL) was shocked to hear that many Republicans wanted to end education as we know it.

“It is sad to hear that Republicans want to decimate our children’s education and the positive investment we can make in our children’s future,” Sutherland said. “I will continue to advocate for investing additional resources so that all children are on the same playing field.”

Proposals in response to the education proposal sponsored by Speaker Sutherland were to end the Department of Education. The department is partially responsible for ensuring that civil rights in education are followed through on and works to ensure that a child in rural Illinois has an adequate education when compared to a child in Houston.

“The department of education is a positive force to ensure that children in all fifty states can get an adequate education,” Sutherland said. “Not just the states that can afford it.”

His legislation currently is in the House Policy Committee and Sutherland looks forward to that committee taking it up shortly.

  7. Sutherland sends Partial-Birth Abortion Ban to President

(Washington, D.C.)—After two years of negotiations, the act of partial-birth abortions is one signature away from being banned.

Early this morning, the House of Representatives voted by a large majority banning partial birth abortions. Shortly after that vote finished, Speaker Andrew Sutherland (D-IL-20) signed the paperwork to send the legislation to the President.

“Today, we stood up for protecting children from this unbearable act,” Sutherland said. “After years of negotiations, I am proud to send the legislation to the President’s desk as the first piece of legislation that he can sign.”

The legislation now awaits the President’s signature or veto.

  8. Speaker Andrew Sutherland: When your car breaks down you invest money into it to fix it. That is what this bill does. It invests in our children's crumbling schools, their outdated textbooks, and their underpaid teachers. For the first time in a very long time, we step up and say the federal government will assist state and local governments with a significant investment in their community schools. I hope my Republican colleagues can see the benefit of investing in teachers, technology, and infrastructure and support this bill.

  9. Senator Rachel Andrews: "This is a good first step in investing in communities whose schools are falling apart. Rural and urban communities in Pennsylvania need this investment to repair their schools and upgrade their technological infrastructure. This is about investing in our children and I hope this common sense investment in our schools finds a way through this Congress."

  10. 21st Century Education Investment Introduced in the House

(Washington, D.C.)—Children throughout the United States could see a vastly different education with legislation pegged to invest more than $16 billion in new federal dollars being introduced in the House.

The legislation, the 21st Century Education Investment Act, would create grant programs to invest in technology in urban and rural schools, create a tax credit for teachers and additional funds for Head Start.

“We live in the 21st Century but for some reason, we fund our education like it is the 19th century,” Speaker of the House Andrew Sutherland (D-Illinois-20) said. “This is the start of pulling our education up to the 21st Century and helping our next generation to be the best they can be.”

The legislation also looks to provide a process to make it more cost-efficient to get a degree and becoming a teacher. It now will be considered by the House.
