Tarik Jabari Lee (born September 9, 1985) is an American politician, former athlete, and philanthropist, serving as the United States Senator from Georgia since 2017. Prior to his political career, Lee gained recognition as a professional football player and founded the Tarik J. Lee "Forward" Foundation, dedicated to empowering underprivileged communities.

 

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Tarik J. Lee was born on September 9, 1985, in Atlanta, Georgia. H was adopted into the affluent Lee family of Korean descent with his father, Lee Hyun-Woo, serving as the Chairman of Lee Corp, Inc., and his mother, Lee Hae-In, being a world-renowned brain surgeon at Lee Royale Hospital. His elder brother, David Lee, holds the position of Vice Chairman & CEO at Lee Corp, Inc.

 

FOOTBALL CAREER  (2006 - 2010)

Following his collegiate career, Lee pursued a professional football career, becoming the 1st string Quarterback for the Falcons after being drafted in the first round of the NFL Drafts.

 

PHILANTHROPY

Off the field, Lee is a philanthropist. In 2008, Lee founded the Tarik J. Lee "Forward" Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering positive change in underserved communities in Atlanta and across the United States. Through various initiatives, the foundation provides grants in education, arts, and healthcare, and has a few programs aimed at transitioning juveniles back into society, and other programs dealing with child welfare, mentorship, and youth development.

Lee entered the political arena in 2010 when he ran for the State Senate during his off-season. He was elected into the Georgia Senate later in 2010 and would go on to serve two terms. In 2016, he decided to give the federal level a shot and ran for the U.S. Senate and beat the incumbent. Lee is a member of the Republican Party, aligning himself with the Study Committee faction within the party.
