  1. Senator Freeman's Statement Endorsing The Nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson Washington D.C. - Senator Gary Scott Freeman releases the following statement to the press: "It is incredibly regretful that the Senate nomination process has become broken thanks to excessive partisanship and polarization. The fact is: Judge Jackson's credentials and experience make her a qualified candidate for the Supreme Court. My job is not to support a justice based on ideology or political partisanship. On the contrary, in assessing her distinguished career as a federal judge, I have determined that she has sufficiently demonstrated her commitment to upholding the rule of law and interpreting the Constitution with impartiality and integrity. While we may not always agree on every issue, I believe that her legal expertise and dedication to justice will serve the American people well on our nation's highest court. I encourage my colleagues to give her fair consideration and a thorough confirmation process. I also commend former Minority Leader David Stewart for his continued commitment to a working and studious government and being courageous enough to embrace Judge Jackson's nomination, even when many of his fellow conservative colleagues turned their back on him with hyperbolic and ham-fisted behavior. As a result of Senator Stewart losing his leadership post, I fear that partisan and petulant politics may get in the way of filling this key Supreme Court vacancy and will vote in favor of ending the Senate filibuster to pass her nomination by a simple majority."
  2. Senator Freeman's Statement On Birmingham Terrorist Attack Washington D.C. - Senator Gary Scott Freeman releases the following statement to the press: "The Birmingham Terrorist Attack sent shockwaves of horror and fear throughout Europe, the United States, and the rest of the free world. Every nation must do everything they can to quell extremism in all its forms. In America, we must remain vigilant in our fight against terrorism while upholding the values that define us. We cannot allow the actions evil extremists to undermine the principles of freedom, tolerance, and respect for all. It is essential that we work with our allies, both regionally and globally, to counter the spread of radical ideologies and address the root causes of extremism and radical Islamic terrorism. While we fully understand, ascertain, and fight the very real threat of radical Islamic extremism, we also must understand and recognize that the vast majority of Muslims in America and around the world are peaceful individuals who abhor violence. By promoting understanding, cooperation, and inclusivity, we can build a safer and more secure world for all. I will continue to work across the aisle and within the Republican conference to advance legislation that seeks to address security challenges and protect Americans from danger."
  3. Senator Freeman's Statement On Senate Leadership; Racial Politics; and Political Correctness Washington D.C. - Senator Gary Scott Freeman releases the following statement to the press: "As one of the few Black Senators in the history of the U.S. Senate and certainly the Republican party, I cannot express how much it pains me to watch as racial strife is being concocted and used as political chess pieces. Unfortunately, our nation has come to expect the playing of identity politics from the left, which has driven a wedge in our national discourse and our collective family. I know many Americans in their daily lives feel the pressure to equivocate and are timid in discussions, worrying about political correctness. The devaluing the term of racism, in particular, is harmful and reckless. That word should only be reserved for the worst among us, who are unwavering in their spewing of hate. As far as I'm concerned, I have found no colleague that deserves to be labeled a racist. It should not be used by any politician to simply shame and demean another politician to score political points and attack a perceived enemy. To use certain -isms; -ists; and -phobias to quiet those you disagree with via social media hysteria is wrong and tyrannic. Any leader engaging in this kind of political combat is being careless and callous. The extremism on the left is daunting, as they seek to stifle debate and use horrific terms to restrain opposing viewpoints, but we must fight against it, not join in on it. It's irresponsible for any leader, Democrat or Republican, to use social media to feed into the diction and tyranny of political correctness and devalue the meaning of bigotry and racism. Questioning liberal policies and the left-wing agenda is not racist. Criticizing the president, who happens to be a woman, is not misogynistic. We need clear and authentic leaders. The freedom of speech must remain a fixture of America's political discourse and must be protected and cherished."
  4. Name: Gary Scott Freeman Media/Outlet: CNN's Don Lemon Tonight Reason: Toxicity in Washington and among Senate Leaders; Political Correctness and Roy Controversy "I see Senator Everhart and Senator Fleming go back and forth all day on Twitter and I just think to myself how unfortunate and irresponsible it is for our democracy. It's dangerous and demeaning to public service. I would be disheartened, as one of the youngest and newest Senators in the chamber, but frankly I am hopeful. We've seen the worse that it can be, we're at rock bottom, now we can start to grow from there. I've watched as many of my Senate colleagues have partnered up on legislation, signing on to legislation from those across the political divide. It's tough work that doesn't get broadcast, but it's there. We should elevate it going forward." "It amazes me that two political leaders read a story in the Daily Beast about one unknown and inconsequential person spewing nonsense and think it's was a good idea to take to Twitter and start bullying one of their colleagues. We're really dealing with brain-rot from the D.C. establishment. The fact is, I serve alongside Senator Roy and he has denounced these views privately and publicly. I have never heard him spread anything near white supremacy. I'm a Black man, a descendent of slaves, elected in South Carolina. To hear Joy Reid and these other leftist commentators tap into racial grievances and use it to take cheap political shots in unspeakable to me." "Would I go out tomorrow and fashion my rhetoric in the same way Senator Roy has done? No. But I do think the Senator is someone who speaks his mind, removes the filters, and challenges political correctness. I know among many conservatives, this is quite refreshing. We tried political correctness and buttoned-up politicians in 2008, 2012, 2016 and it hasn't worked for us. I was elected to the Senate as one of the youngest Senators in a chamber with a lot of old people and I'm a Black conservative from South Carolina. I think people are looking past establishment politicians who continue poor leadership and advance gridlock in Washington. Maybe we need people who are willing to wage a battle against political correctness and break through the noise and leftist agenda to silence and muzzle conservative thinkers."
  5. Senator Freeman Promotes Youth Summer Employment At After-School Event Charleston, South Carolina - Senator Gary Scott Freeman endorsed expanding funding for youth summer employment while at an after-school activities event at a Charleston high school. "We have responsibility to give our youth the best opportunities to be their fullest selves and begin on the path of upward mobility at a young age. Summer employment opportunities would keep our young people off the streets; get money in their pockets; and ease burdens on their family budgets," Senator Freeman told local reporters. Senator Freeman will be focusing more on enhancing economic opportunities for emerging generations, including expanding access to financial literacy classes in K-12 education. In the meantime, Senator Freeman has co-sponsored a now bipartisan bill introduced by Senator Nolan Stokes of Maryland to expand investments in youth summer employment programs.
  6. Welcome! April looks fun.
  7. Atkins on the Senate floor:
  8. I was thinking about the fact that many slaves weren't necessarily freed after the EP, however, the occupation failed to cross my mind. Thanks for that.
