April Kelly, the mother of five and foster mother of many, is a pastor's wife of an Alabaman mega-church. Kelly has been preaching the Baptist gospel ever since becoming a missionary after earning her Master of Divinity from the famed Oral Roberts University in 1987. Kelly is well-known in Evangelical circles as the first lady of Holy Temple of God, as a religious public speaker, and author of the 2009 book Mother of God. The book put Kelly on the national map as a ministerial force and raised her profile exponentially. The New York Times Bestseller opened up opportunities to speak to women of faith around the country. Kelly has never shied away from politics since becoming a public speaker in 2010 and declared during her 2016 campaign for Senate that God had anointed her candidacy to "clean up the cesspool of Washington with holy oil and holy laws". Described as a hardline conservative and "Christian nationalist crusader" by CNN, Kelly was elected to the Senate in 2017. She joined the Senate Freedom Caucus soon in her tenure and told reporters she was dedicated to advancing the "agenda of Jesus Christ" while serving in the chamber.
