Senator Thomas Williams is a lifelong Rhode Island resident. From eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner at his favorite restaurant (Greggs) to sitting by the ocean on Block Island, he loves being a Rhode Islander. Growing up, he was always called to public service, which is why he went into teaching. While teaching, he met his husband Brad. After two years of dating, they were married in a beach ceremony in Newport, RI. Together, they have adopted two children from the foster care system. 

Politically, Williams identifies as a center-left democrat. He served two terms on the Cranston City Council, and one term as Mayor of Cranston. After winning the election to the open mayoral seat in 2020, when Senator Jack Reed resigned for health/family reasons, Mayor Williams ran in the special election to succeed him, winning just over 60% of the vote to fill out the remainder of his term.
