  1. Office of Congressman Harrington

    Voting Update

Providence, Warwick, Westerly, & Washington D.C.

Congressman Mike Harrington recently voted on two pieces of legislation before the House. On H.R.22 - Jerusalem Embassy Creation Act and H.R.47 - Voter Integrity Act, Congressman Harrington voted against both measures.

"What we see from the Republican majority is a hard swing to the right on elections," Congressman Harrington said, "their attempt to nationalize election laws goes against the founder's intent. Should cities decide to enfranchise permanent residents of the United States, this legislation would eliminate federal grants for the entire state." Congressman Harrington favors state and local governments deciding their own election laws.

  2. Mr. Speaker,

Upon review of this legislation, it concerns me that the majority is proposing the federal government regulate local and state elections. States run our elections, not the federal government. If a state or local government decides legal permanent residents should have the right to vote in state or local elections,  it is their prerogative. I therefore, motion to table this legislation.

    I yield.
