  1. Quickie question for ya.  For "morning business" like Floor speeches, does a Senator have to request recognition, or can he just speak? I would think the former, but I'm not sure what the protocol is.

All I ask is that when a priority bill is put on the floor is that you vote for it, both cloture and all. There shall be no room for dissenters.

I don't mean to make a big deal out of this, but I need to address the subject.

How do I say this....both IG and OOC, I always put principle over party.  I understand that there will be times when I need to "toe the party line", so to speak.  I have no problem with doing so.  Nevertheless, I hope that you recognize that there will also be times when, due to personal beliefs, I'll have to dissent.  That's just the way it is.

That said, I'm committed to kicking some Democrat booty.  Let's rock!

  3. Adding to this.

On trade, I support free trade and free markets, with some protections for American jobs and companies.  I'd be down with drafting a bill encouraging people to "buy American" (but not penalizing them if they choose to do otherwise).

Environment....make polluting companies pay to clean up their own mess, maybe?

I think Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc should be able to do whatever they want to do. Surely there are some west coast senators who could get on board with that.

Gotta disagree with that.  They should be able to take actions to shut down hate speech...but IMHO, free speech should be protected, online and off.

The question, then, becomes this; what is free speech? The right to free speech is not absolute.  What can you reasonably say, and what can't you? We'd be wise to work to define this.

  5. Mr. President,

I rise to a point of clarification, specifically on the Chandler Amendment to Section 204 of Title II.  Am I correct in assuming that the language in bold is the approved change/addition to the bill? (It wasn't immediately clear to me what was being changed)

    I yield back.
