  1. I was in South Florida, visiting my mother.  I remember waking up on that morning to a bright blue sky....just like the one in NYC.  Totally clear for as far as the eye could see.

Anyways, my mother woke me up...."quick, turn on the TV, there's been a big plane crash in New York City".  So, I flicked on the TV....and was greeted with pictures of WTC's North Tower, burning.

I don't remember much of what happened next....a lot of that day is a blur.  One thing I can recall is having a foreboding sense that something really bad was about to happen.

In fact, I remember a haunting comment that I made sometime after the second plane hit..."does that tower look unstable to you?" Sadly, I ended up calling it (to some extent), as both towers would later fall.

The other thing I recall is being very concerned about a friend of mine.  She was, at the time, studying at NYU; I thought she might've been hurt.  I was able to reach her by cell phone a couple of days after the attacks.....fortunately, she was uninjured (thank God).

Every year, I watch footage from 9/11...and every year, the absolute terror of that day comes back to me somewhat.  I'm always amazed that I lived through it....after all, if not for small favors, one of the 3,000+ lives lost could've been mine.  "There but for the grace of God", you know?

  2. @TPatterson: Keeping Reagan's Commandment in mind, I don't usually criticize fellow Republicans...but @SenJosephson should watch his words.  The language...

@TPatterson: ...he used in a recent tweet is unbecoming of a senator.  #Easy_Tiger

If the party does desire, you can pick NPCs to run in the Senate Elections by Sept 20, we will not have primaries this go around and I will be able to reject NPCs. If you don't pick an NPC, I will pick one. Please note that NPCs will not per se have much of an influence in these races, party strength and performance is worth much more.

Looking over some of these races.  If we're saying McCain's retiring, I think we should go with Scott Smith (Mayor of Mesa, AZ) in Arizona.

    Other suggestions:

    • Indiana - Speaker of the House Brian Bosma
    • Missouri - Lt. Governor Peter Kinder
    • Wisconsin - Speaker of the House Robin Vos

    Just some thoughts.

    Thoughts on bill as written?

OOC and such: I should say that this kind of bill has recently become near and dear to my heart.

A few days ago, I learned that one of my RL childhood friends had passed away (three years since her passing, but I just got the news).  I suspect my friend died via a drug overdose; she apparently had addiction problems, as well as legal troubles.

Anywho, input on this bill is welcomed and appreciated.

Good feedback on this bill.  I'll go ahead and introduce it.

  5. OK, I'm not really sure about how campaigning/campaign events are supposed to work....but here's a proposed letter to constituents in Georgia.

    Dear Voter,

Please allow me to take just a moment of your time, so that I might update you on recent events in Washington.

During the past year, I've worked hard for the people of Georgia.

    • On the economy, I proposed legislation to further develop our manufacturing capabilities, and secure quality jobs for all Georgians.  I also fought against new taxes that, had they been approved, would've taken more money from your wallet.
    • On national defense, I've been a voice for our brave military men and women.  Several times this session, I spoke of the need to keep a technological and combat superiority over our adversaries.  And when our veterans needed better care, I stepped up to support them, voting for a bill (S.149 Veterans Omnibus Support Act) that made reforms which were long overdue.
    • I've also been working hard to defend your civil rights, proposing legislation protecting both speech and the free exercise of religious beliefs (see: First Amendment Defense Act

Now, if I may, let me briefly address the upcoming election.

When it comes to political leadership, Georgia needs a senator that it can trust; someone that works for the people, and is not afraid of bold solutions.  I believe that I have proven myself to be such a senator.  If you agree, I would greatly appreciate your support, and a vote for re-election in November.  Let's improve on the positive changes that we've already made; let's move "forward, together"

    With Liberty and Justice,

    - Senator Thomas Patterson

    Thoughts?

  6. Just a reminder to myself of the things I've done so far this round.

    Also:

  7. @TPatterson: Working on a bill that would expand diversionary drug treatment programs.  Let's give addicts the opportunity to "clean up, rather than be locked up".  #Opportunity #BeatAddiction

  9. Hey all.

I don't really know what to say, as I don't like to sound like a broken record....but I had to take another break.  The last month or so has been quite difficult for me, personally.  I've found (and still find) it very tough to keep an even keel, emotionally speaking.  So much BS is going on in the world that I sometimes just want to scream.  Those who battle with periodic depression probably know how it is.

Anyways, I'm trying to get my mind right, and back to feeling a bit more normal.  In the course of that....well, read the title, LOL.

  10. @TPatterson: I think the argument here is "apples to oranges", as I do not know of any state regulation that prohibits those turning 18 before Election Day (but after the registration deadline) from registering before the deadline.

@TaraJaffeMcDaniel: So taxpayers who turn 18 after the deadlines but before or on Election Day doesn't get to vote?

@TPatterson: To clarify, that would mean those who are 17 before the deadline, but turning 18 before Election Day.
