Company Bio:

RoyCo Inc. is an American multinational, multi-conglomerate business, with a focus on mass media and entertainment, that is headquartered at the RoyCo complex in Burbank, California. RoyCo began in 1920, founded by Leonard Logan Roy at the age of 30, when he developed oil wells across San Diego County, California.

After five years of big profits, RoyCo diversified into property development, including residential and commercial buildings, including the Leo Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Throughout the 30s, continued production of oil and property development led to cashflow available for investments in farming and manufacturing companies across the state of California.

In 1940, RoyCo sold many business investments to free up cashflow for the creation of Royvision television sets, selling them commercially across the United States. The shift in strategy produced millions of dollars in new revenue, along with the continued oil reserve and property management profits.

In 1951, RoyCo created a film and television production studio, with a studio lot in Hollywood, creating television programming and theatrical films. At this point RoyCo’s divisions consisted of: RoyCo Oil; RoyCo Properties; Royco Hotels; RoyCo Electronics Manufacturing; and RoyCo Studios. In 1955, at the age of 65, CEO and Chairman Leo Roy died, succeeded by his son Logan, who was 45 years of age.

In 1959, RoyCo sold it’s electronics division, which manufactured and distributed its Royvision television sets, to RCA for $10 million, equal to over $1 billion in today’s value. The deal financed the creation of American Television Network (ATN), a television broadcast network, airing seven days a week, across the nation. RoyCo sold off its oil production division in 1963 to Mobil in another $10 million deal that allowed RoyCo to finance the creation of AdventureLand Park, an amusement park in San Diego, California. The first park opened up during the summer of 1967. The parks division later expanded into cruises during the 1980s, which continues to generate massive revenues for the company to this day, as the division has expanded across the country and internationally over the years.

In 1970, Logan Roy died as a result of a heart attack. During this time, scandal began rocking the family, throughout the decade. It began with a succession battle that saw Logan Roy Jr. outmaneuvering other members of the Roy family to secure the throne atop the family. Meanwhile, Andrew Roy, the COO of the company at the time, was arrested in 1971 for drug trafficking. He was later acquitted, despite allegations that money was being funneled through the family’s company, including being used to cook the books at the RoyCo film studio to which some actors under contract with the studio were later jailed and sentenced for various criminal schemes. In 1975, another sibling of the ruling Roy clan was engulfed in criminal scandal following the death of nightclub dancer Juanita Feldman, who died mysteriously after talking with a reporter about an alleged sexual affair with John Roy, another prominent RoyCo executive and family member. John Roy was charged with second-degree murder of Feldman but was later acquitted when evidence went missing in case. Ten years later, the reporter who spoke with Feldman was determined to be dead at sea after apparently going overboard an AdventureSea cruise ship, owned by RoyCo. No foul play was determined by local authorities.

In 1985, RoyCo’s ATN broadcast network was transitioned into a cable network, opening up subscriber revenue in addition to advertising. The RoyCo Television Networks division began creating regional sports broadcast networks and niche cable networks targeting niche markets, including a children’s entertainment channel; conservative Christian-based channel; and family-oriented film and scripted-TV channels. Throughout the 1990s, much of RoyCo’s TV broadcast and cable networks expanded internationally, as well as its parks and hotels. It’s film division also kicked off during this period with several $300 million grossing movies in the decade, sending RoyCo into the stratosphere as one of the foremost media brands in the world. This was all thanks to now-Senator Jason Roy’s leadership atop RoyCo Entertainment Studios. In 2003, Jason Roy took over as President of RoyCo, serving for three years before leaving the company to focus on politics.

Paul Roy, a cousin of Jason's, succeeded and proceeded to run the company into the ground throughout the rest of the 2000s, with film studio profits beginning to falter and park revenues beginning to dwindle. Paul Roy was ousted by the board in 2010, thanks in part to the economic downfall that prevented any of Roy’s maneuvers from reversing the company’s downward trajectory. The company’s first CEO from outside of the family took-over in 2010 and spun-off RoyCo’s film studios in a sell to Disney for over $5 billion, retaining the television studios and networks, theme parks and cruises and property investments.

In December 2016, Jason's nephew, John Roy Jr. took over the company in a shareholder power struggle. He reorganized the company, becoming CEO with president heads of various divisions beneath him.

The ATN cable network always had a conservative bent, but the network really leaned into the strategy of making it a premiere conservative network throughout the 2010s, with partisan news shows and scripted television shows tailored to older, more conservative audiences.  In 2016, RoyCo began shifting toward a more digital media strategy, buying a start-up conservative media company, Veracious Media, and its Veracious online news platform, podcasts, and digital radio shows.

In January 2017, RoyCo launched the StarGo streaming service, which included scripted licensed television and film programming, similar to Netflix, and original ATN news and talk shows exclusively for streaming. It also included a free, ad-supported streaming TV aspect, including a Veracious Network, tailored to younger conservatives.

In February 2017, John Roy Jr. hired former Fox News executive Thomas Ripley as president of ATN
