  2. Groove Magazine Mission: To shed light on the dark and murky underbelly of an American society. Target Audience: Young progressives, leftists Background: Groove Magazine was founded in 1968 by a band of hippies in Detroit, Michigan. It began as a pamphlet that included investigative journalist reports and quickly grew to prominence in the counter-cultural era of the time. The magazine was heralded as a forerunner in the Black Arts Movement in the 70s and a voice for the political left and the disillusion. It disbanded for some years until it was revived in 2017 thanks to the help of former Rolling Stone Editor Ezra Birwood. Birwood seeks to push Groove Mag at the forefront of investigative journalism in the United States, using fringe styles such as Gonzo reporting to do so.
