  1. With Prescott leaving how will the replacement work? Missouri is a state in which the governor selects a replacement for senate. the governor of Missouri at the time was a democrat and would likely select a democrat. Who will get to choose Prescott's replacement?

  2. Name: Lisette Egidia Tran

    Party: Democrat

Interviewing agency: KGW Channel 8, Portland (NBC Affiliate)

"If I'm going to be honest with you [reporters name], this new Contract with America offered up by the Republican Party confuses me. They are talking doom and despair and a failure of leadership in America that only they can fix, well didn't they just have control of both houses of congress for the last 4 years? The American people trusted in their leadership and it has gotten the country to where it is. Why are they attacking their own leadership and pushing for change they didn't pursue when they controlled congress?"

  3. Far From Harvest Season, Grants Ripe for Family Farms

(Greenville, OR) -- DNC Chairwoman Lisette Egidia Tran encourages family farms to apply for the new American Family Farm grants available after the passage of the American Family Farm Reinvestment Act.

Rep. Tran said "While we might not be the largest agricultural state, I am proud of all the farmers who call Oregon their home and I am proud to have helped secure this money for farmers across the state and country. I recommend that all eligible farms apply for this new grant. This pilot program will rely on the feedback of those who receive the grant to evaluate the program effectiveness and see if it should continue. It might not be the best time for planting or picking but it is a great time to get a little wiggle room in your budget by applying for a grant."

Congresswoman Lisette Egidia Tran promises to continue working for Farmers and their hard-working families. She recommends that all eligible farms apply for this grant to help with their upcoming season. Rep. Tran welcomes all feedback on the program and future legislation that could be of help.

  4. Honestly, the fuss confuses me as much as you. These are the same rules that ran the House last session. If the Republican Party has a problem with them now, well shouldn't they have had an issue with them before?

    Hello San Francisco!!

Tonight I see in front of me a crowd of passionate patriot for the United States. A room full of people who understand the value of education and the need to fight for the future of our nation’s children. It is an honor to stand here and speak to you all.

It is no secret that education is a topic that I hold dear to me heart. I worked as a teacher for many years before entering the ranks of elected officials. But my love for education spans back further than my years as a teacher, I am forever grateful to this country for providing me and my siblings the opportunity to learn. The education I received at Hillsboro High paved the way for my life and successes. I appreciate the opportunity that our education system provides and the competency it has given millions of Americans throughout the years. Yet, I have also seen first hand the failures of the American education system. It is why I fight for education, I understand its promise and how much further it has to travel. I am an example of how our public education can lead to amazing futures and take people from poverty to congress.

The GOP is committed to privatizing our education system and leaving those who cannot afford better education to fend for themselves in the crumbing remains of the great American system. While Democrats have tried working in a bipartisan manor to improve the system for everyone, the Republicans have stood firm against working together and left the future of our children at risk.

Democrats will fight for your children. We believe that every child deserves a quality education, regardless of race or gender or location or economic status, and are committed to improving the education system of our country. We know that learning opens doors and a strong education will provide a strong foundation to succeed. We dream of a future where every child can complete their education and leave prepared for their next step and ready for life.

I know you share the Democratic dream for our children. You too see a future where no one has to dropout of school and all this nation’s children receive a world leading education. Join the Democrats in building a better future with education for all.

    God bless and goodnight Chicago!

    House Minority Whip Aaron Frost

It is truly a pleasure to be with you all here today. To be able to stand in the room with many caring Americans who believe in improving and empowering our education system to ensure that our children are prepared to become futures next engineers, doctors, lawyers, lawmakers, but most importantly the leaders of the future. The greatness of our nation comes from much more than just our military but is more deeply embedded in our education system.

Education is the key to many doors and the pathway to a bright future, which is why we must ensure that every child nationwide and globally have access to a well-endowed education system, regardless of their race, gender, religion, education or creed. There is no reason why we should not be able to look our daughters in their eyes and tell them that could be the worlds next top engineer, lawmaker, doctor, lawyer or leader. As the greatest democracy in the world, we must hold true to our promise that all men are equated and that nationwide and globally, an  accessible and quality education should never be a privilege but a human right and is the reason we must reaffirm our promise to people of color that schools in urban communities deserve the same level of funding and attention as our suburban communities.

Grasping the future and coming out on top requires that our students not only go to college but that they graduate, join the job market and create the job market. It is imperative that within this new millennium we seek to ensure that all Americans have access to a college education and that we assert our dominance in the field of science and mathematics. We must develop a village raise a child attitude when we tackle the topic of education and ensure that we have a progressive system that seeks to educate all, instead of some.

    House Minority Leader Andrew Sutherland

    Good Evening, San Francisco!

Throughout this campaign we have learned something, Republicans have no answer on the dilapidation of our children’s education under their watch. For years, they have continued to ignore the problems of education and failed to work in bipartisan manner to find a real solution for our children. This is one of the most important reasons we need to elect a Democratic Majority to Congress in 2000.

During my time as House Minority Leader, I have put an emphasis on finding bipartisan solutions to problems that affect democratic and republican districts. Unfortunately, my approach has been shut out by Speaker White and Congressman Fong. The people hit by their partisan game playing, our children.

Under Speaker White’s leadership, reading proficiency is at its lowest point in years. Their solution taking money away from poor rural and poor urban schools. That is not a solution. It’s a death sentence for education. What we need are bipartisan solutions that invest in broadband for rural schools, invests in alternative educational methods and ensures our teachers have the resources they need.

With your help we can achieve those goals. But first we need to ensure that partisans like Speaker White get the message loud and clear that his partisan games help no one and hurt our children. With your help tonight, we will send that message and we will take back Congress for our children.

Thank you San Francisco and God Bless America!

    Dear [insert name],

The Democratic party is proud to stand every day for the working class around the country. We support unions who have such a crucial role in ensuring workers have rights and protecting workers from the advances of corporations. We know that right-to-work legislation and Economic Free Zones will work to bolster the wallets of big business while doing nothing to advance the lives of working Americans. We stand with the public education system and dream of a nation where every student, regardless of economic status, race, or gender, are able to get a world class education. We are committed to pushing this country along on the path to equality and freedom. Hate has no home in our party or the future of this country.

Family, equality, safety and opportunity. Fair rules for all. Another 8 years of economic success. That is what the Democratic party fights for, 8 more years of better and progress.

The Republican party has stood against legislation working for peace and respect. They work to promote the interests of big business, taking in millions to push the privatization of education and of our healthcare system, the creation of tax havens within our country, and the dismantling of unions who protect workers against corporate greed. They push partisanship and fail to show up on the hill.

We need your help this election! Republicans have been pouring in millions of dollars into elections around the country. Funded by corporate interests, the GOP has completely outspent the Democratic party. We can’t let the Republicans hide our message with their mega donor money. We are asking you, the people, to join together and help us stop big corporations from buying this election for Republicans.

    Senate Minority Leader Anderson Sherman

Hello! Thank you! It is so good to be here talking to you about an issue we all care about: the plight of the middle class.

This nation’s greatest strength is its workers. The American workface is the greatest in the history of the world. And yet, these last four years they have been under constant threat. The Republican Party has laid a full-blown siege on unions and their workers, and we have been fortunate to keep them at bay.

Two years ago, the GOP made it a top priority to push forward to strip unions of their right to get involved in elections. It failed to succeed, thankfully, but that didn’t stop the continued attacks. We see a move to punish unions just fail in the Senate. We see a continued effort on the campaign trail by several Republican candidates to target unions in their platforms and on the convention stage to a cacophony of cheers.

But we in the Democrat Party know how important workers are, unions are, to the betterment of this country. We are committed to protecting workers from having their Constitutional Right to Free Assembly destroyed! Unions have the constitutional right to fight for their employees. This is a freedom so basic that it was enshrined in the Bill of Rights. We cannot become idle while the Constitution itself is cast aside to attack unions.

But we must do more to return power to the American worker, the blue-collar men and women that fuel this nation. We need to amend the Taft-Hartley Act to return full freedom of speech to workers across the country. This bill has been a punishment to the working men and women and their unions for fifty years. It’s time to get it right.

This year’s election is about a choice. Who stands with the working class? Do we want tax breaks for businesses, or people? Do we want a powerful middle class of workers, or a further push against the rights of people to pursue a better life? Do we think people should be on their own, or be able to band together and unite in a common struggle like our forefathers once did? Do we believe in the power of unions, or of businesses? I hope you’ll join me, and the Democrat Party, in pursuing a better nation for our country’s workers and for the unions that represent them! Today, you can make a difference!

    Thank you, and God Bless!

    House Minority Leader Andrew Sutherland

    Good Evening, Chicago.

Now, I know for many it was different states they came from. But tonight, I am happy to be in the great home state of Abraham Lincoln, a man who did not hate labor. Instead, he said that only liars and fools hate labor. It seems that the 16th President is talking about the member in his party that have continued to attack the rights of middle-class labor.

That is why we need a Democratic Congress who will fight back against the radical right agenda attempting to destroy the backbone of our country, the middle-class. People like Speaker White and Congressman Fong want to tell you that your well-being is less important then the well-being of corporate elites. Whereas, we know that it’s the middle-class that drives economic growth when they feel economically stable. So we need your help.

We will fight for the rights of middle-class workers throughout this country. Democrats will protect your right to collectively bargain. We will protect the legacy of unions throughout this country. They fought against child labor, the helped gain the weekend, they have fought for equal pay for equal work. With your help, we will fire Speaker of the House John White and ensure the majority of this country are heard over the selfish interests of a few.

I will leave you with this, remeber what Lincoln said about those that attack labor. "If any man tells you he loves America, yet hates labor, he is a liar. If any man tells you he trusts America, yet fears labor, he is a fool."

Thank you and God Bless Illinois!

Democratic Presidential Candidate Rep. Tyler Grayson

Thank You Chicago for having me,

There is only one party that stands for workers rights and only one party that has put working America before CEOs. The Democratic party has fought for the right of workers for the last century and as we enter the new one that isn’t going to change. But we can’t do it alone we need your support to end the Republicans from attacking worker’s rights.

Right to Work, which is more accurately right to turn a profit. Instead of working with you our Unions to defend our workers this GOP congress has sought to make your job harder to benefit the CEOs and corporate boards who see our workers as nothing more than numbers on a sheet. Well in congress Democrats have fought against this bill and as a caucus we have united to fight against this bill, and in a Democratic house Right to work would never see the floor of the US House.

We can turn the table give us the chance to lead and we will pass the Protecting Workers' Rights Act to ensure no state can weaken Unions to help big business. We will raise the minimum wage,  We will push for comprehensive Job retraining so we can get Americans who have lost their jobs to outsourcing back to work. Let’s get the party of workers rights to be in the minority so that we can pass some bills that help working Americans.

We need a House that understands that the Working class is the backbone of American society and unions are what keeps that backbone strong. While Republicans have actively sought to strip away collective bargaining rights we have stopped them in their tracks. There is only one party that has and will fight for workers rights and that party is the Democratic party. With your help we can ensure that defenders of working Americans take back the House.

Thank You all and God Bless our Working Americans
