Sutherland Opposes Federal Overreach

Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. House of Representatives recently considered legislation that would mandate a 60-day notice requirement on plant closures or mass layoff notices. Congressman Andrew Sutherland (R-IL-6) issued the following statement opposing the legislation.

“Once again instead of finding ways to lift up job creators, Washington insiders have used their clout to line their pockets why hurting the middle-class men and women who depend on the jobs being created,” Sutherland said. “Instead of creating government overreach into the private sector, how about we find ways to protect these jobs and create more of them.”

Sutherland is ready to work with any member of Congress who wants to find real solutions to the real issues the country is facing.

Sutherland Applauds Presidential Leadership on Minimum Wage

Washington, D.C. -- Earlier today, President Ronald Regan (R-CA) vetoed legislation that would have mandated businesses closures across Illinois and the United States.

“Dictatorial mandates from Washington does not solve the very real problems the middle class is facing,” said Congressman Andrew Sutherland (R-IL-06). “We have to lift up the middle class by working with our partners in Illinois, California and New York. But those three states are completely different and we have to respect that as a national government.”

The U.S. Congress passed legislation that would have dictated an increase to the federal minimum wage without any consideration to the unfair and uneven economic impact it would have state by state.

“I understand my colleagues’ desires to help the working man. I want to help them too. But a hardworking resident of Illinois is not being helped when their place of employment closes because Washington is forcing mandate after mandate down on them.” Sutherland continued.

Sutherland will urge Congressional leadership to sustain the President’s veto and find real solutions providing true economic opportunity for every American.
