Pruitt: Americans in Dire Need of Economic Growth

Washington, D.C.

Congresswoman Elaine Pruitt released a statement today in regards to the stock market crash that has shaken the world:

"This event should send a wake-up call to the President and to other leaders in our country as they reassure us that this is merely a minor 'setback in global markets,' that the American economy is not nearly as strong as they may like us to think. Rising debt and 'voodoo economics' have put far too many good, honest, hard-working families in this country on the brink of financial peril. While the corporate fatcats at the top of the ladder have benefited greatly from the policies of this Administration, far too many people are in far too much danger in the Reagan economy. Another hit like this, and we could have economic turmoil. Folks in this country should be able to depend on the White House for honest and effective leadership -- where is it? The American people are waiting."

Pruitt in Beaumont Touting Bill to Protect Social Security

Beaumont, TX

Congresswoman Elaine Pruitt held a meet and greet session in Beaumont, Texas today. She opened the event by speaking extensively about legislation she recently sponsored to protect funds in the Social Security Program from deficit control measures; an excerpt of her remarks is below.

"What I said when I sponsored this bill was, essentially, listen: folks in my district care about our national debt. We care about balanced budgets. And we also care about ensuring that the weakest among us -- our poor, our feeble, our elderly -- are taken care of and treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. That's the American way. We need to ensure the sanctity of the Social Security program, and this bill helps us do exactly that."
