Mark Rounds was born on January 2, 1967, in Cass County, ND. His mother Barbara and father Charles were well-respected farmers and Mark’s father worked closely in  the North Dakota Oil industry and state agricultural sector. As a child Mark was a bright student and diligent son. Along with his siblings, Mark would assist his parents on the family farm and would help deliver produce with his father to local grocery stores across the county.

Mark graduated from High school in 1984 and attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Folk where he studied Political Science and minored in Norwegian. As a student at UND, Mark was a very active student. As a member of the School’s Student Government and a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Mark was a very well known student around campus. He organized political discussions around local issues in Grand Folk along with holding bipartisan meetings to discuss diverse political views at the University in regarding politics locally and nationally. There at the University, Mark met Laura who he fell in love with and during their Junior year of college, they married.

After graduating from college, Laura and Mark moved to the Rounds' family farm where Mark acquired the land upon the passing of his parents just two years after graduating from college. There Mark and Laura worked the farm and still work it till this day. In 1997 Mark and Laura welcomed a baby boy, Mark Jr. into the world. Three years later, the family opened a grocery store in Fargo, ND a few miles from the farm and sold produce and many of their products grown on the farm.

For the next eight years, Mark and his wife headed the store but began to see a lot of changes that hit their store and the community that prompted him to run for State Senator of the 22nd State Senate District in North Dakota. Upon being elected and Sworn into office in 2009, Mark has become a strong bipartisan leader and has been a strong advocate for North Dakota Farmers, the states Oil Industry. In 2010, Mark became a strong supporter of the Keystone XL Pipeline, stating it would bring economic growth to the state and jobs for many North Dakotans. Now Mark is running for United States Senate because he believes in a strong supporter of North Dakota’s farmers and economy and wants to be a bipartisan leader for the state.
